August 2, 2011...Regular Monthly Meeting of Wyoming Citizens

Show me the papers............

If you haven't made a recent trip to the DMV for a new driver's license, you are in for a shock. As Wyoming's lap dog legislature accepted the Federal Government's Real ID program, multiple new regulation have gone into effect. If you are a married woman, the system is particularly demeaning to you. The new regulations can be found here: NEW DMV REGULATIONS .

In 1973, I had the experience of crossing the border into East Berlin. I was fearful, and forefront in my mind were the stories told by Herr Hanke of those he knew who had crossed the border, never to return. My recent trip to renew a driver's license brought those memories flooding back. The experiences were not dissimilar. Authoritarian, condescending and smug, I was informed that the State of Wyoming would not accept my identity because anything with my physical address was in my husband's name.

I watched a similar scenario play out with a woman who gained her first Wyoming driver's license 57 years ago. She was told she had no identity...even though she was born and raised here, brought up her family here and saw grandchildren born here. It was her 5th visit in the attempt to renew her license.

Ultimately, I was told that all this is for my protection. If schools taught true history, the DOT official would know that Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. "

Where will it end? Only God knows...and He isn't saying.

"When the American spirit was in its youth, the language of America was different: Liberty, sir, was the primary object."

Meet founder Patrick Henry. More than any other man in the Virginia colony, he was the founder of the revolution there. Self-educated and well known as THE legal authority on British law in the American colonies, and many believed his authority on the law superseded those in Britain as well, he was an ardent advocate of liberty. Henry was an anti-federalist, and quite accurately predicted what the federal government would become. For myself, he is 'the founding father'. If you are interested in learning more about this most amazing man, read

"Patrick Henry: Lion of Liberty" by Harlow G. Unger.

  1. This book might make Patrick Henry your favorite founder as well!

Wyoming Gives up More Liberty

Each year, William Ruger and Jason Sorens of George Mason University rate the states as to the liberty they offer their citizens. Where do you think Wyoming rates? First? Third? Top Ten? No. Wyoming tied with California for as the state that declined the most in overall freedom. We rank 23rd in Economic freedom and 20th in personal freedom, falling in the 21st position overall. New Hampshire, Colorado, Oregon, Virginia and Utah are just some of the states that rank higher. To read this year's report visit this link: Wyoming Liberty Rankings. We lose our freedom as we make excuses and slumber on.

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.

Are you like me? Have you ever dreamed of seeing TRUE liberty in America? How I would love to experience the reality that our founders envisioned. Here is an article presented by the Mises Institute, written by Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr. Here is the vision! After reading it, visit the Mises Institute website for more information on liberty.

The Founder's Vision

Wrong Ideas....Wrong Attitudes .......I meet allot of interesting folks that drop by my lunch counter. I had an interesting conversation with one fellow the other day that took me a little by surprise. He drops in now and again...full of complaints about Washington and fight. This day was no different, until he said that he had heard the most profound thing on the radio and was going to have it put on a T-shirt.
"It should be our state creed!" he told me as he pulled a ragged slip of paper out of his pocket and unfolded it.
"To each according to his ability, to each according to his need," he announced triumphantly.
Now I have never been very good at hiding my feelings, and this day was no exception. The look on my face (shock) and the open mouth gave me away.
"You don't like it?" he asked, obviously hurt by my reaction.
"Do you realize whose statement that is?" I asked.
"No...just some guy on the radio," was the reply.

"That statement comes from Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto," I told him.
He opened his mouth to argue, and then got very quiet and stuffed the paper back into his shirt pocket.

Our minds are pelted daily with ideas of Karl Marx, Saul Alinsky and others of their ilk. I am often shocked by the statist, collectivist and socialist ideas that I hear coming from the mouths of those who claim to be conservative and 'pro-liberty'. We do not live in a democracy or a republic for that matter. We live in a Welfare state and it is only getting worse. People sit at home while the rest of us work 10 or 12 hour days to make ends meet. We supply them with cell phones (yes there is a govt. program for that) and cable TV and homes and clothing and food and utilities and healthcare. Take a look at how much you and your employer have honestly paid into social security. For most of us, it is under $100,000.00. Once you begin drawing that money YOUR contribution will be gone in 5 or 6 years. Then WHO pays your way? Washington's cradle to the grave policy is a failure, and that failure will be carried on the backs of our children and our grandchildren. Is your hand out? We can't have it both ways folks....either it's liberty and its price...or it is continuing down the socialist path we have been on for the past 100 years. Margaret Thatcher hit the nail on the head when she said, "The only problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money." No truer word was spoken.
Honestly, none of us have ever seen true liberty....but I want to. Let me suggest that you read Karl Marx's Manifesto, Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals and see how many of their anti-liberty communistic ideas have crept into your thinking. Every good housewife knows: it is easier to clean house in the daylight when you can see the dirt.

Just a note......Remember that both Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin said that the only way we could remain free and maintain a republic was to be an 'educated populous'. Check out some of the websites in our links, order a couple of good books or borrow them from friends or branch library. Learn all you can about candidates. Don't make your voting decisions hastily. Listen to all the candidates and hear what they have to say. Look at voting records. Times are too dire to through your vote away too quickly...We have to change Wyoming and our counties before we can ever hope to impact the nation.

Wyoming Liberty Group

Wyoming Liberty Group has once again complied their liberty vote record for the 2011 session (thanks Charles!) Check out this link below to see how the Representatives and Senators in your district voted on the six most liberty granting/liberty intrusive bills presented at the legislature this session. It is high time to hold these folks' feet to the fire for their votes and to extend thanks to those who voted for liberty. Each generation must fight for liberty. Are you doing your part?

Liberty Votes

State of Wyoming's Code of Ethics
Wyoming is the first state to adopt a 'code of ethics'. Here's hoping that folks might learn to live by them.

  1. Live each day with courage.
  2. Take pride in your work.
  3. Always finish what you start.
  4. Do what has to be done.
  5. Be tough but fair.
  6. When you make a promise, keep it.
  7. Ride for the brand.
  8. Talk less and say more.
  9. Remember that some things aren't for sale.
  10. Know where to draw the line.

Wyoming Citizens for Liberty and Freedom
has set a new meeting schedule so there won't be confusion about when we are meeting.
On the 1st Tuesday of each month
we will have a regular business meeting.

Other meetings during the month will be dedicated to information and speakers. Watch your email!!

For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst and provide for it.

Economics from a personal prespective........

I am no economics authority, nor do I claim to be, but there are certain things that are common sense, and should be obvious to all of us. No one wants to address the elephant in the room, but the time has come to prepare for what is coming and coming in the not too distant future.
Our economy is not stable, and we all know this. I believe that we left a regular market economy 50 years ago and have since been functioning in a bubble economy. Everything now has its own bubble: housing, banking, personal debt, government debt and the dollar. We witnessed the recent burst of the real estate bubble and the worldwide turmoil it has caused. It is only a matter of time (maybe as much as 3 years, but I doubt it) before the rest of the bubbles burst as well. Now is the time to prepare for yourself and your family. When the dollar bubble bursts, nothing tied to that dollar will have value, and that slip of paper will buy nothing. Some of the things that you may want to stock up on now include:

  • water
  • food
  • medical supplies
  • fuels
  • lighting supplies
  • firewood
  • firearms and ammunition
  • silver and gold

No one knows what may happen, but a little 'Eagle Scout' attitude of "Be Prepared" can go a long way.

The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.
---------Patrick Henry

Federal Land Grabs

Recently there was reported that 11 million acres in 9 western states were being considered as 'National Monuments' under the Antiquities Act. Wyoming lands were mentioned, but Wyoming is exempt from the 1906 law due to an agreement made with the state and Truman in 1950.
Below is a 2006 article from the Casper Star that gives some of the particulars of how and why Wyoming has an exemption from the Act.
